Shane Gramling has had a knack for art since as far back as he can remember, and he still recalls being fascinated specifically with modern architecture and sculpture during his childhood. During fifth grade he was exclusively chosen to attend a class of his choice at the Flint Institute of Arts by art instructor Patricia Morello. Morello also selected one of Shane’s paintings to be featured in an exhibition at the Bower Theater. This kind of recognition gave great hope to a shy kid growing up in a low-income, single-parent home on Flint's east-side.
Middle school at Flint’s Whittier Academy was average at best, and after nearly dropping out of school completely, a friend recommended an alternative high school in the area that hired teachers that that actually cared about their students. Through high school Shane soaked up every creative class available, and began to dabble in graphic design and website development.
Toward the end of his junior year he was hired to design the website for the Ruth Mott Foundation and Applewood Estates which still use his design today. Shane graduated high school soon after completing a twelve-month web development class at the Genesee Area Skill Center and moved on to grow his graphic & web design business and develop into a self-taught photographer.
Shane has been shooting product photography, events, and portraits on a professional level for over five years. Aside from child and senior portraiture, his clients range from local non-profit organizations and art galleries, to investment agents and a souvenir supplier all the way from Hollywood, California.
A typical photo session with prints only costs about an arm and a leg - but that includes prints. Seriously. Photo studio rates can be outragous, especially if you're looking at one of the big names in town. I charge a down-to-earth $125/hr session fee that includes free post-production image enhancements. You then have the option to buy prints online or an entire disk at the following rates:
